Francesca Manahan (known to her classmates and school staff as Fran) is a 12th grader here at NCCS and we are so proud to have her as part of our school community! She has been attending NCCS since 4th grade and has consistently strived to give her best in all she does. This past fall, she was chosen to receive the 2024 Outstanding Student Leaders Award by the St. Louis County Office of Social and Community Services County Youth Programs, along with students representing 48 other schools throughout St. Louis County. When asked about her reaction and what her feelings were when she found out she was receiving the award Fran said she was surprised and excited. She stated, "I put a lot of effort into not only my academics but making sure I give back to NCCS by being involved in extracurriculars and activities because I think of this place as my second home. Seeing my hard work recognized always makes me extremely happy."
Fran, along with the other award recipients, participated in a full-day student leadership event on the campus of Washington University. We asked Fran to share a bit about her experience that day. One of the things she shared was about an activity they participated in. "Our main task was to divide into groups and create a ten-minute presentation about a solution to a preselected social issue, then "compete" with other groups for a large sum of grant money. My group worked on a slideshow revolving around school violence, and we had eye-opening conversations about mental health and how underfunded some of the schools around the state are. Even though we only worked together for a few hours, it was like we had known each other for years. My favorite part was definitely talking with everyone who worked with me, as well as touring a small portion of the WashU campus. The buildings are so fancy, and some of them even have parts set aside for small, museum-like exhibitions. It was gorgeous!" The experience ended with the award ceremony, recognizing each of these students.
Fran exemplifies kindness, humility, and dedication in all she does. It's hard to believe she is already a Senior, preparing for graduation and what lies ahead in the days after. About her time here at NCCS she stated, "My time here at NCCS has been great, and I will always love that the school is small to the point where everyone feels like family - even the teachers! Knowing my time is up soon as a senior, I'm definitely going to miss everything about this place. After graduation, though, I still look forward to learning to become an adult, as well as seeing the path that God has prepared for me. I think I know some pieces, but it will be very satisfying once He makes it all fit together." And we look forward to seeing and hearing about all of God's continued faithfulness in her life in the years ahead!
Congratulations Fran!
